XCHANGE got an opportunity to chat and interview Chuck Surack, founder of Sweetwater, as he shares his inspiring journey from a musician to building a leading music retail company, emphasizing customer care and innovation. Chuck Surack's journey began in fifth grade with a saxophone, a gift from his father, who was also a musician. Initially focusing on Kurzweil parts and instruments, he soon started selling sheet music, MIDI interfaces, and recording equipment from brands like Tascam and Fostex. By 1990, Sweetwater had five employees and was operating out of Chuck's house. Recognizing the need for more space, Chuck moved the business to a new commercial building, setting the stage for further expansion.
